The purpose of this blog
My story begins with a personal project. I created a character inspired by a Doberman (since I love them so much) and researched it.
But after I found the Doberman Diversity Project and the Finnish Kennel Club's decision, I found that this breed is in serious trouble.
"The once incredibly healthy, powerful, and superior working breed is now crippled by an extraordinarily high prevalence of life-threatening diseases, at earlier and earlier ages, including: cancer, Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Wobbler Disease, and hepatitis (inflammation of the liver). Those problems are a predictable result of the breed's severe depression of overall genetic diversity."
- Doberman Diversity Project
"Efforts to reduce the disease in the population are also complicated by the breed’s globally narrow gene pool. Dogs living on different continents are genetically so closely related that even on the scale of Finland, it is not possible to improve the breed’s health simply by using foreign dogs for breeding."
- Finnish Kennel Club
So this blog's purposes are:
- Raising deep awareness of the situation of Dobermans and the importance of genetic diversity
- Explaining to people things about dog/cat breeding, including outcrossing
- Organizing my thoughts on Doberman things
- Educate people about dog/cat breeding, such as finding good breeders
- And some lighter topics about Dobermans
This blog is not an attack on individual owners and breeders. Low genetic diversity in purebred dogs and cats is a systemic problem; this is not something the individual owner or breeder can fix on their own.
And since my current mental health is not ideal, I'll add trigger warnings in some posts (ex., mentioning DCM or Sudden Death in detail, mentioning my personal emotions that might cause anxiety).

I wrote two posts about explaining this breed's situation in my native language (since that isn't English, I recommend using Google Translate)
I had this petition on Change.org.
